Waterblasting vs. Grinding Waterblasting and grinding are used to remove existing markings on roadways that conflict with new markings, redesigned intersections or new passage due to contruction. Waterblasting - High pressure waterblasting causes less damage to the asphalt surface or concrete surface by only removing the top layer of paint and residue in a controlled blast. Although waterblasting is more costly than grinding, the quality is higher and extends the life of the existing surface as well as maintaining the appearence. Grinding - Performs the same duty as waterblasting as a cheaper alternative however leaves a "ground in" effect on the surface of the asphalt and produces large amounts of dust. The grinding process is recommended for applications that will be resurfaced after rehab or construction is completed.
